Three essay questions will be taken from those below.

 

  1. A religious tradition can be defined in terms of a number of characteristic features sometimes called the “four C’s.”  What are these characteristic features and define them.
  2. What are the pivotal values of the following religions:  Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and Islam.
  3. Compare and contrast Gautama’s enlightenment experience with St. Teresa of Avila ’s mystical experience.
  4. What is the role of ritual in religion, and what are the three discernable categories of religious ritual?
  5. In the National Geographic film, Inside Mecca, The Ka’ba is mentioned.  What is its history from before creation to the present day.
  6. In the film, El Favor de lost Santos , The Sacred Iconography of Retablos and Exvotos, what are Retablos and Exvotos?  How have they been used, and what is the relationship of a family to one they have in their homes?
