FRAMEWORK FOR CLARIFYING

THE NATURE OF A PARTICULAR RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE

  2. What specific features did the experience have? [Did it intensify or transform the individual or group?; Was it sudden or gradual?; Was it expected or unexpected?; Was it sought (a quest) or unsought (a call)?
  3. In what context did the experience occur? [Familiar or unfamiliar surroundings; in relation to familiar or unfamiliar persons]
  4. Did the religious experience affect particular areas or aspects of the individual’s life: The group’s life? Were there areas or aspects that were not affected?
